The PowderHandling 2-Day seminar includes presentations from local and international guest speakers with extensive industry knowledge and expertise in their own specialist field.
As with all our seminars, we have selected speakers with real life experiences who have many years of theoretical AND practical experience in the industry. This means that they relate to the needs of the user and understand the problems faced every day in a production environment.
Peter Wypych - Associate Professor, University of Wollongong
Peter Wypych is the Director of the ARC-endorsed Key Centre for BulkSolids & Particulate Technologies at the University of Wollongong. He has been involved with the research and development of solids handling and processing technology since 1981. Areas of expertise include pneumatic conveying, bulk materials handling, dust-fume hazards, control and dust explosions. Peter Wypych has published over 270 articles in these areas. He is the Chair of the Australian Society for Bulk Solids Handling.
Peter Wypych is also the General Manager of Bulk Materials Engineering Australia and has completed over 450 industrial projects, involving R & D, feasibility studies, troubleshooting, general/concept design, optimisation, debottlenecking and/or rationalisation of plants and processes for companies all around Australia and the world.
Felipe Ong - BS&B Safety Systems (Asia Pacific), Singapore
Felipe is a specialist in the area of Industrial Dust Explosion Prevention & Protection Technologies. He holds a diploma in electronics engineering and has over 20 years of experience servicing various industry sectors, with the past 8 years focusing on dust explosion protection technologies.
His experience covers a wide variety of industry segments including food & beverage, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, grains, wood products, pulp & paper, petro-chemical, oil & gas & powder generation.
Felipe travels across the Asia Pacific Regions & Europe & has extensive knowledge on the latest codes & standards & best engineering practices driven by both US & European standards. He has conducted a series of dust explosion risk assessments & provided solutions to many customers in this area.
Felipe is an active member of the Singapore Loss Prevention Society & provides regular technical talks on explosion protection to the members. He also works closely with insurance institutions & other safety bodies to increase safety awareness against industrial dust explosion risks.
David Newell - Business Development Director, Matcon Pacific Pty Ltd
David Newell is an Electrical Design Engineer by profession. Completed training at Rolls-Royce Plc. In the UK, focusing on the design of the Marine Urbine Engine Modules. Commenced work in Australia at Bulk Materials Coal Handling in the late 1980s responsible for the electrical design, installation, commissioning of coal preparation plants around the Asia–Pacific region. Spent the last 15 years working with Matcon, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the business unit in Sydney to develop new business in the Asia–Pacific region. Working closely with clients in various industry sectors; Food, Pharmaceutical, Plastics, Chemical and Building products to establish a more efficient manufacturing process in terms of Dry Powder Handling.
Ron Purvis - Independent Sampling Equipment Specialist
Ron Purvis has had 24 years’ experience in the Bulk Materials Handling industry covering system design, equipment manufacture, project management and plant commissioning of powder handling systems. For the last 16 years, Ron has specialised in the design, manufacture and marketing of manual and automatic sampling equipment for Australian and international markets.
Dennis Forte - Managing Director, Dennis Forte & Associates Pty Ltd
A chemical engineering graduate of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Dennis Forte spent 10 years with the MARS Corporation. During this time he was involved in both Process and Product Development roles within the areas of Confectionery, Canned Petfood and Dry Petfood Extrusion Technologies. Dennis then spent five years with The Uncle Tobys Company as the Process Engineering Manager, where he was actively involved in the quantification and optimisation of the various unit operations employed in the manufacture of Ready–To–Eat Breakfast Cereals and Snacks.
His key areas of expertise include Extrusion Processing, Process Modelling, Process Optimisation and Drying Technology. He is now practising as an independent Engineering Consultant to the food industry, providing technical support, design expertise and training to a broad range of manufacturers throughout Australia and South East Asia.
Tony Vierboom - Managing Director, Nova Protection Systems Pty Ltd
Tony Vierboom is the Managing Director and one of the owners of Nova Protection Systems. He has qualifications in both electrical and mechanical engineering, and has actively been involved in the area of Industrial Explosion Protection for the past 15 years. Nova Protection Systems is the only Australian manufacturer of explosion protection equipment and as a specialist firm is involved in continuing research and development. This R & D has included over 80 full-scale explosion experiments and dust ignition explosions are a feature of his expertise.
Roger Baxter - Independent Consulting Engineer
Roger Baxter is a qualified mechanical engineer (NSW Institute of Technology) with over thirty years of experience.
Roger spent sixteen years with Henry Simon Australia on assignments involving equipment design and manufacture, plant layout and major turnkey project works. He then spent nine years with Goodman Fielder Mills (now Allied Mills) in project execution, including the construction of a major turnkey mixing plant and providing technical advice to all divisions of the company.
Roger has spent the last ten years as an independent consulting engineer providing advice in a range of process plants and powder handling environments including powder transfer, intake & storage, grinding, mixing & batching, packing, ventilation design, dust control, and project works.
